The General Directorate of Government Examinations formed as a separate address in Feb.1975. Prior to the formation of the Directorate of Government Examinations, the then DPI / DSE was former commissioner of trade for Govt. examinations and the department had its office in Madras only.
The first secondary school leaving certificate examination held in 1911. The directorate began to perform the following major reviews mentioned the years, each of them apart from the various examinations.
