The petition dated 11/11/1839 Public initiated the establishment of the University of Madras. It was in January 1840 with Norton Mr.George as President of the University Board was constituted. In 1854, after a lapse of 14 years of Government of India formulated a systematic educational policy for India and the aftermath of the September 5, 1857 by an act of legislative council of India University was established. The University is organized on the model of London University.
