The Madras Committee therefore came into force under an Act of the Legislature of Madras in 1929. The Madras Presidency had the unique honor of being the only province in India to establish the first Service Commission. The Madras Committee began with three deputies, including the president. After the reorganization of States in 1957, several committees were formed. The Commission became Madras Madras Public Service Commission based in Madras in 1957. During 1970, when the name became state Tamil Nadu, the Madras Public Service Commission automatically became the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC).
