The MCC was recognized as the premier institution of the University of Allahabad, but many affiliated schools had outstanding academic reputation, too, and some of them matured over time into full-fledged universities. The Indian Central School (Varanasi) metamorphosed into the Banaras Hindu University (BHU) in 1916, the Mohammedan Anglo-Oriental College (Aligarh) in Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) in 1920, Canning College (Lucknow) at the University Lucknow in 1920 and the Morris Memorial College (Nagpur) in Nagpur University in 1923. All Colleges of the University of Allahabad outside the UP were transferred to the Universidad Autonoma de Madrid in 1923, and other universities (UP), University of Agra after incorporation of the latter in 1927. Thus, BHU, AMU and Lucknow, Nagpur and Agra University and the subsequent ramifications of the Nagpur and Agra University, are all direct descendants of the University of Allahabad.
