The NBSE was created through an Act of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly and was approved by the Governor on November 15, 1973.
It became operational from October 1, 1974, and in March 1975, the Board held its first High School Leaving Certificate examination at 6 (six) centers by the year 2008 (two thousand eight) candidates.
In trying to go out with his own identity, a series of workshops, seminars, trainings, study tours were organized. Subsequently, the statewide curriculum committee held its first meeting on March 30, 1978, which resulted in a series of workshops to highlight our curriculum independently. The new curriculum in the form after the needs of the state, was approved by the Government on April 12, 1979. Textbooks written or selected in accordance with new syllabus framed were put into service for classes 9 and 10 between 1981 and 1982, respectively.
