Sri Krishnadevaraya University had its beginning as a graduate center of Sri Venkateswara University in 1968. It has gained autonomy in 1976. Fulfilling the wishes of the people of the region, the Center for Autonomous Post Graduate was given the status of the University in 1981. Initially, Sri Krishndevaraya University operates as a unitary residential university. It confers the status of the University of membership in 1987. At present, is to meet the needs of higher education revenue districts of Anantapur and Kurnool. The graduate center in Kurnool was brought under the jurisdiction of the University in 1993.
