Bhavnagar is traditionally known for its cultural heritage in western India with Shri Krishnakumarsinhji last prince regent who was the first to donate his princely state of the nation. Mahatma Gandhi, the father of the nation, received his initial college Shamaldas College during 1888, which today is headed by the University of Bhavnagar. Bhavnagar District is located between Latitude Longitude 21.18-22.18 and 71.51-72.18. The district covers a total area of 12,048 square kilometers.
The university was established back in 1978 by the state of Gujarat and the total area of 269 hectare campus is spread over 3 instead. The University is to provide high quality teaching and research programs in the colleges as diverse as Science, Arts, Commerce, Engineering, Medicine, Management, Rural Studies and Law. The University currently has 20 departments and 4 institutes Postgraduate recognized.
